My children are in 7th, 6th and 3rd grade. When making out the lesson plans for the week, I put as much work as I can on an independent work sheet (writing, cursive practice, reading material, etc.) so that when I am busy with one, and another is finished with his work, he can work quietly from his folder. He gets his work done earlier, he learns to be diligent with his time. Plus it keeps down arguments, and getting off track!~Kim, Mother of 4~

I have also had the older child 8th grade work with the younger one (2nd grade) on reading skills or even to teach some of her easier lessons. She enjoys being the 'teacher'. I have used this process to help teach on leadership and cooperation.
