This is a method a Homescool of 4 friend of mine taught my children and I about mediation. She learned it from IHOP in Kansas City, MO.
You pick a verse of scripture that everyone is to meditate on and give these guidelines. We are going to set the timer for ?? minutes. (I use 15-20 minutes) and I want you to focus on this verse and do these 6 things with this verse during our time : READ IT, WRITE IT , SING IT , SAY IT , PRAY IT AND DRAW IT (Great for little ones who can't quite write well) We will have some backgroud music on -- you can feel free to walk while you pray just make sure to respect those around you. One last thing--many times when we try to meditate on God our minds get in the way and we begin to think about other things and soon our time is spent wondering if I made my bed, so to dedicate this time to Jesus make a "task bar" at the top of your page and when a thought wonders through your mind or you think of a question you need to ask, you can jot it down and get back to the verse and it will be there for you to check on after mediation. This was we can give Jesus our full attention.
We do this a few times a week and it has taken on different looks - sometimes my older daughter likes to pull out the concordance or dictionary and do a word study from the verse. all my children come up with the most insightful drawings and the cool thing is they all groan when the timer goes off!!! I have taught on different aspects of the sequence from time to time like ''how to' pray the scripture and it gives a mom such joy to see her children seeking the Lord in His Word. On a side note we started this about 2-3 years ago so my youngest was 4 1/2-5. It has also enriched my own personal life as well as model for the kids a relationship with my Savior.
Have Fun!
