Don't just do, BE!!!

Whenever I see friends and family these past few weeks, they are talking about how busy they are. Busy with birthday parties, busy with holiday parties, busy with shopping, busy with children's activities, busy with out-of-town company, busy, busy, busy!

Often these people ask me, "Are you busy, too?" And, I feel sort of weird saying "Not really", and I realize that my perspective may be different than the norm. Most people would define "busy" as lots of time "doing" something. Busy is in itself sometimes good and not even necessarily bad.

I think "busy" for me means that I am doing so much that I do not have time to just "be". I want to make sure that when I am doing something, it is a part of my being. Too deep? Too philosophical? Let me break it down: when I am at a party, I don't want to be there just to show up, do my duty. I want to be at that party because I am making a choice to be a part of the event. It is all about my choice to "be", rather than "do".

So, according to my new definition, what are you "doing" that is keeping you from "being"? Or, what do you consciously need to choose to "be"? Before you do another thing, check your motives. Enjoy "being" this holiday season, and take "busy" out of your vocabulary!

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." Colossians 3:23-24
