Belinda Youngblood is willing to teach art to homeschooled students. We are passing along her letter of introduction. Please feel free to forward this information to anyone who may be interested.

My name is Belinda Youngblood and I am an Art Instructor. My family recently moved to Birmingham from Fairhope, AL. In Fairhope I was the creator and Director of The Master’s Center, a fine arts enrichment program for elementary to high school students. At the Master’s Center I taught classes for home school families in a special format to enhance the education they were receiving at home. I also taught in two Christian Schools, where I began their Art Programs and developed their Art Curriculum. Our students were very successful and received countywide acclaim.

The reason I am writing is to announce that I will be teaching this fall in the Birmingham area and would love to offer my services to you. My desire is to serve you through providing excellent art instruction. I am eager to hear from parents as to what times and days would benefit your family. I would love to offer such classes as Watercolor, Acrylic, and Oil Painting as well as Pen and Ink, Drawing and Calligraphy. I would also love to have an introductory class for younger children. I will need about 10-15 students to make a proper class. I would be willing to travel to your home if several families would like to get together to compose a class. Classes will be offered quarterly at $10.00 per lesson for each student with a $25.00 supply fee per semester. This will generally be about 12-14 lessons per semester. I plan to begin the first semester the last week of August or first week of September.

Please contact me at (205) 739-9024 or by email at bgyoungblood@aol.com if you are interested so that I receive your feedback on the days and times that are good for your family. I look forward to working with you and your family.

Martin Hames Mentoring Program - The Alys Stephens Center has developed an Arts Mentoring Program to introduce middle school students to the arts. Local artists and arts educators will serve as volunteer mentors and will be paired with students to attend specific performances throughout the Alys Stephens Center’s 2007-2008 Season. Students will participate in facilitated group discussions (“Talk Backs”) immediately following each performance, and on occasion will have the chance to meet the guest artists. This unique arts learning experience is designed to create a safe environment in which to discuss and share ideas, values, and feelings, which the arts stir, and to encourage leadership and critical thinking. In addition, the group discussions enable students to interact with professionals in the field. This year-long program will culminate in a final event for participants, parents, and mentors. For more information, call (205) 934-0862. Here is the list of performances that they will get to attend FREE!!! The Original Blues Brothers Band Fri, October 19; 8:00 p.m., Axis Dance Company Sun, November 18; 2:30 pm, Sister’s Christmas Catechism Sat, December 15; 2:30 pm, New Orleans Jazz Orchestra w/Irvin Mayfield Sat, January 26; 8:00 pm, Cirque-Works Birdhouse Factory Sat, February 23; 3:00 p.m., and Rachel Lee, violin Sun. My daughter is a member of the home schooling bowling league on Hwy 280 – Brunswich Riverview Lanes and we love it. The charge is only $6.50 for 3 games including shoes. There are two home schooling moms that run the league for the lanes and they do a great job. They play on Tuesdays at 1:00.

Registration is still open for the spring semester of Constitutional Law Online, taught by Michael Farris, Chairman of Home School Legal Defense Association and Chancellor of Patrick Henry College.

The class begins January 7, 2008, and concludes June 2, 2008. If you've always wanted to learn more about the history and background of our legal system, from a biblical perspective, or if you're looking for a good U.S. government class for your homeschooled students, then this class is for you!

This 18-week Internet-based course follows Michael Farris' textbook, "Constitutional Law for Enlightened Citizens," and uses a computer-based audio CD-ROM to deliver the "classroom" lectures. The syllabus lists the reading and listening assignments for each week and offers a flexible schedule for homework. Every two weeks, students can participate in a live chat-room discussion--hosted by Michael Farris--to pose their questions and discuss the material. Twice during the class, students will submit essay exams for grading. A certificate of participation will be awarded to all students at the end of the class.

Tuition is $250 for HSLDA members and $275 for non-HSLDA members, which includes the required textbook and CD-ROM. For more information, or to register, visit the class website at http://conlaw.hslda.org.
Please take a moment to sign up today!

Bible Study for HomeSchool Kids

Our next study will be The Life Of Jesus. This will be a 5-week study ending the week before Easter.
I hope to bring Easter alive as we walk through Jesus life and end with the crucifixtion and
ressurection. First class Friday Feb 22nd (or the next day, Sat) and last class will be Good Friday,
the 21st of March (or the next day, Sat).

I will be using handouts so they can continue to use the same binder as before. There will be homework
weekly. I have decided to charge $30 per student. If a family has more than one student each other
child may attend for a $15 fee.

I have been asked about taking students from other homeschool moms and I am very willing to
do that, however, I would need an assistant since I already have 10 students. I am willing to take
up to 15. I have a wide age range (7-17) and it has worked but new students need to be at least
8. Please pass this information on to those who might be interested. Classes are held in the Chelsea/
Westover area.

I am throwing out some options about when to have the class. I do not work on Friday and I know
Friday evening has worked for those of you who have Friday small groups. I would keep
my same schedule of 7 to 8:30. I am also open to any other time on Friday or on Saturday.

Let me know, I am excited about getting started.
